Most of the books I read take place in another country. I mostly read fantasy so there’s that, and I struggle to find local fiction books that grab me by the shoulders and shake me with that ‘you’ve got to read this’ feeling.
But using fantasy worlds would be too easy so I’m going to shoot myself in the foot and only use general or literary fiction.
Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe
The Vegetarian by Han Kang
The World According to Garp by John Irving
Irkadura by Ksenia Anske
Colourless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage by Haruki Murakami
