A memoir that is brave and unflinching in the telling, Part, Pieces and Aspects of a Frozen Mouse can be harrowing at times as the alternative personalities, or ‘alters’ recount for Anne their memories of abuse and the psychological survival strategies employed to endure it. While this does include the formation of new alternative personalities at times, each of the alters having had a distinct reason for coming into being, it discusses general dissociation as well. While sensitive in discussing traumatic events, the authors don’t gloss over the actions either and this will be difficult for some people to read. Hope, and the healing to be gained by facing the past, are the focus of this striking memoir and resolute honesty one of the tools employed in telling a story of surviving horrific abuse. Parts, Pieces and Aspects of a Frozen Mouse is a disquieting yet optimistic account of living with DID.
