So when I had the opportunity to watch the series again, I snatched it in greedy hands and and evil laughed all the way to the TV.
My fond memories were soon shattered by my inner critic. It hurt a little.
Dark Angel just isn't as good as I remembered it. The setting is still awesome, as is the Transgenic concept. The Jam Pony characters are entertaining, and many of the individual episode stories are good, but the whole 'Max and Logan can't be together because stuff and reasons and virus' is just lame. Really now, you can only drag romantic not happenings so far before it gets boring.
The story arcs in the second season were scrappy, like somebody pantsed it up an hour before shooting started. Many of the middle episodes dragged. Also, am I the only one who wonders what happened to Herbal?
Then you get to the ancient breeding cult people and White's involvement, and things pick up again. All things are racing toward a climax, and the series ends on a very strong note. Life for the Trangenics is forever changed, and there are questions which need answering, but bam! The series is cancelled.
I understand why now: bad storyline in the second season.
One of the few things they did right with season two was to introduce Joshua and Alec. Both these guys have complex and intriguing story arcs which I would've loved to see more of.
