I loved the magic system in Enchantress Undercover. While the idea of enchanting through a focus and channel is simple to understand, Spahn executes this concept in a unique way and includes nuances that add a level of intricacy to magic use. The balance created by a Void’s natural immunity to magic vs the magic energy magnetism of enchanters is clever, and the consequences of the Voids being placed in an authoritarian position feels as natural as the fact that having such political power has inevitably corrupted the Void Union. The romantic tension between Desmond and Adrienne is cute and enjoyable to read, albeit a little clichéd. The plot is somewhat predictable but entertaining nonetheless and a surprise twist in the conclusion brings this enjoyable Urban Fantasy to a satisfying and thrilling close.
